Saence at Koken Art Factory, August 13, 2011
On August 13, 2011, local dark-rock band Saence performed at The Koken Art Factory, in front of a small, enthusiastic crowd. Formed in 2007, Saence is known for its deeply melodic and haunting tunes that are unique but reminiscent of the band Tool. Having performed with bands such as Hollywood Undead, Shinedown and Staind, Saence is about to continue their journey, as they have recently earned a spot in Sept 2011’s Pointfest 29.
A set featuring mostly dark red lighting during most of the verses, with blasts of white and orange lighting throughout their choruses, added to the dark, evil aura the band exuded throughout their performance. Vocalist Dean Preacher’s haunting scream instantly would draw you into an inescapable world of chaos that would make you think only a séance could conjure your soul back to reality. The band left the stage blazing as they sang the songs “Sin-A-Damus”, “Burn”, “Symbiotic” and “Pretty Sorry”.
Overall, the performance was powerful and engaging. Saence clearly displayed the high level of complexity within their sound that a local band can achieve through hard work and dedication. On this night, Saence clearly showed why they have earned a spot at Pointfest 29.
