Lake Street Dive at Old Rock House, March 26, 2014
If you have never heard of Lake Street Dive, go to You Tube. They have amazing videos of the band walking along city streets belting out covers of famous songs. My favorite is their rendition of George Michael’s “Faith”. It’s how most people find out about this quirky, bluesy, sultry band. And once you find them, you will have a new favorite band.
Lake Street Dive performed at the Old Rock House this past Wednesday, March 26, 2014, and did not disappoint. This four member band who formed while in college over ten years ago belted out hip shaking, soul touching blues/jazz/rock music like no other. Think Amy Winehouse meets The Jackson 5; or Etta James meets George Michael. They played a variety of songs from their new album “Bad Self Portraits.” And lead singer Rachael Price kept the crowd entranced with back stories of many of the songs. Although I loved their hits and covers, their little known songs like “Neighbor Song” and “Don’t Make me Hold Your Hand” were the ones that kept me screaming for more. I mean, who doesn’t love a song written while watching the X Files?
Sultry. Seductive. Surreal. Lake Street Dive is a force. Find them online and fall in love.
